Student Futures

From the Head of VCE and Student Futures

As we come to the end of another busy and rewarding term, I would like to congratulate all students on their efforts, commitment and achievements throughout Term 2. This term has been filled with rich learning experiences, career exploration opportunities and important milestones as students continue to shape their future pathways.

One of the highlights of the term was the inaugural Exploring Health Careers Immersion Day, which provided an exciting opportunity for our aspiring healthcare professionals. In celebration of Thank a First Responder Day, fifteen Year 7 and 8 students participated in a hands-on introduction to the many pathways available within the health industry.

Throughout the day, students rotated through a range of interactive experiences including patient care and diagnostics, CPR skills and awareness, and fitness and mental health workshops led by Mick Ewart from Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre. Students also explored future-focused health careers through an immersive virtual reality experience facilitated by VICE Australia.

A visit to La Trobe University’s Rural Health School gave students an insight into future study options, with Nursing and Midwifery student Jade sharing her experiences and demonstrating that rewarding healthcare careers can begin close to home. The day concluded with a lively school-versus-school Kahoot quiz and CPR challenge, with Girton taking out the honours for demonstrating outstanding knowledge and technique. Congratulations to all students involved for embracing this unique opportunity with enthusiasm and curiosity.

As we look ahead to Term 3, families are reminded that subject information evenings and subject selection processes will commence across the school. These events provide valuable opportunities for students and families to explore future pathways and make informed decisions about their studies.

Planning is underway for our current Year 10 students entering Year 11 in 2027. VCE subject selection interviews will commence in Term 3, and a booking link will be distributed to families during the holiday period to allow appointments to be scheduled at a convenient time.

As we head into the term break, I encourage all students to take time to rest, recharge and reflect on their achievements this semester. I wish all students and families a safe and enjoyable holiday and look forward to an exciting and productive second half of the year.
