An Evening With The Stars
The Oxley Christian College Alumni and Staff Orchestra presented a concert featuring many new alumni to the group. The evening also included the debut performance from the choir, also directed by Mr Aaron Chan. The program featured music from various artists from across different generations, including Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston and Elvis Presley. Two past students, Tasman F (Class of 2025) and Keishi S (Class of 2024), joined staff members Miss Hina Sasuga and Mr Jeffrey Clarke to portray the beauty of an Enya song. We now look forward to the orchestra and choir performing at the college’s Gala Evening and then presenting their end of year concert.
Soiree Evening 1
Many students took to the stage for our first Soiree Evening for the year, giving them a great opportunity to perform solo in front of a supportive audience. Woodwind, Cello, Violin, Vocal and Piano were featured, with the Junior School students performing first. It was an entertaining evening, with some very high-standard performances.
VCE Unit 1 Concert
The VCE Unit 1 Concert provided our Year 11 students with a performance opportunity as part of the VCE journey. Tom W (11.15) on Piano; Jessica M (11.13) studying Voice; Cameron P (11.13) on Guitar; Roshni J (11.14) studying Voice; Angus S (11.14) on Guitar; and Caleb P (11.15) studying Voice, all presented their carefully prepared program as part of their course.
Secondary School Ensemble Evening
The Secondary School Ensemble Evening is one of the highlights of Semester 1 and a large crowd gathered in the LMC to witness the hard work of some very talented students.
The evening commenced with the various Sinfonia groups who performed with confidence and flair. The Stage Band is always popular with the audience, playing both swing and rock, featuring vocalist Michaela H (10.1). The Middle Years Vocal Ensemble always bring a smile to everyone’s faces and the Senior Concert band filled the church with a big sound. Both Cantabile ensembles impressed with their clean playing, and The Barbershop Boys entertained with their close harmonies and expressive faces. Both Forte and Sforzando demonstrated their skill, versatility and musicality. The Senior Vocal Ensemble and Camerata highlighted the skill and talent of our senior musicians, performing to the highest of standards. The Senior Choir concluded the evening in style, accompanied by both a string ensemble and wind/brass ensemble. The final gospel number featured soloists Jessica S (9.11) and Nicole M (10.3). It was a wonderful evening for each musician and audience member.
The next issue of The Vine will feature a report and photos from the Junior Ensemble Evening and Junior Music Chapel. The Performing Arts Faculty wishes everyone a relaxing holiday, whilst encouraging all our students to keep practising!
