Gibeon Warriors Win Cross Country by One Point

We were blessed with excellent weather for our House Cross Country Carnival, held on Tuesday 26 May. All students completed the 3km course, with results contributing to the overall House Cross Country championship.

The competition produced the closest finish of any House Carnival this year. The Gibeon Warriors (Red House) narrowly ended the Tabor Trojans’ (White House) dominance of the House competitions, claiming victory by a single point. The Zion Crusaders (Blue House) finished in third place.

The Trojans performed strongly in the junior age groups, while the Warriors made a strong comeback in the senior divisions to secure the overall win.

The course remained largely unchanged from last year, with minor adjustments required due to construction works in the upper car parks. We were still able to keep students predominantly on College grounds, with only a short 100m section running from the Secondary School to the main entrance.

Students competed in age groups rather than year levels. All races began on the oval before students ran through the teardrop car park and exited via the small gate near the bus stop, where they turned back towards the main entrance, towards Life Ministry Centre. The course then followed the boundary of the property past Oxley Kids before competitors tackled the challenging “Heartbreak Hill” climb back to the finish line on the oval.

EISM Sport

The Year 7 students recently competed in their Season 1 EISM Sport Grand Finals, with the Girls Soccer team and the Boys Hockey team being crowned premiers. Congratulations to all Year 7 students for their participation throughout Season 1. We look forward to an exciting Season 2, with a range of different sports on offer.

It has been a few years since we entered a Year 7 football team, and it was fantastic to see the enthusiasm shown by students eager to test their skills in the sport this year. Many of the schools we compete against have also faced challenges in the footy space over recent years, and it will be exciting to see what our Year 7 students can achieve moving forward.

The Year 7 students were recognised for their contributions during Season 1 at a Sports Assembly, where the Most Valuable Players (MVPs) and Best Team Players (BTPs) were presented with medals. The recipients are listed below. Congratulations to all medal winners for your outstanding efforts throughout Season 1.

Our Senior students are halfway through their final EISM season for the year, with semi-finals and grand finals taking place in mid-August. They will also have one final opportunity to represent the College at the EISM Cross Country event on Wednesday 9 September in Doncaster.

The Year 8 and 9 students are also halfway through their Season 2 EISM competition. They will begin their third EISM season in mid-September.

Students are reminded that they must wear the correct sports uniform when representing the College in EISM Sport. EISM regulations state that students are not permitted to compete unless they are wearing the appropriate uniform. We look forward to another successful term of EISM Sport in Term 3.
