What Did You Do At School?

Prep

The Prep students have been busy learning about length in Mathematics and have thoroughly enjoyed exploring different ways to measure objects around the classroom. Using Unifix blocks, students have measured a variety of items and compared their lengths, developing their understanding of longer, shorter, and equal lengths. There has been great excitement as students have also used icy pole sticks to measure one another, recording and discussing their findings with enthusiasm.

Alongside their Mathematics learning, the students have been working hard to prepare for their upcoming Expo. As part of this exciting project, each student has created an imaginary animal and is designing a habitat diorama to suit its unique needs. Students have used their creativity and imagination to think about where their animal lives, what it eats, and how its habitat helps it survive.

The classroom has been buzzing with excitement as students carefully construct and decorate their dioramas. This project has provided wonderful opportunities for students to develop their creativity, problem-solving skills, and confidence in sharing their ideas. We look forward to showcasing their fantastic work at the Expo and celebrating the effort and imagination that has gone into each project.

Year 1

Over the past couple of weeks, our wonderful Year 1 students have been focusing heavily on identifying adverbs in their reading and also including them in our writing. In science, we have also been busy investigating how different items are made from various materials, helping us understand their unique properties and uses, such as materials that can stretch, bend, or fold. As we approach the end of the term, the teachers are incredibly proud of how much they have grown academically, socially, and physically! We are praying for a safe, restful, and thoroughly enjoyable holiday break for all our families.

Year 2

In Mathematics, Year 2 have become familiar with using notes and coins to represent different amounts of money. While we discovered that the same amount can be shown using repeated addition and multiplication—for example, 10 × 5c = 5c + 5c + 5c + 5c + 5c + 5c + 5c + 5c + 5c + 5c—we all agreed that if we were shopkeepers, we would much prefer to receive a single 50c coin! This sparked some thoughtful discussion, and we even inferred that one reason there may not be a million-dollar note is that it would be very frustrating if it were ever misplaced!

This week in Writing, we prepared a procedure titled How to Be a Friend Like Jesus. We reflected on the “ingredients” we may need, such as the Fruits of the Spirit, and the “steps” we can take to walk in His ways each day. Through this task, students considered what it means to show kindness, patience, forgiveness, and love to others. Please enjoy reading some excerpts of their writing below.

  • Take care to not be reckless because if you want to be a friend like Jesus, you have to be kind! Felix M (2D)
  • Say loving words to cheer people up. If someone is lonely, you could ask them to play. Vanessa C (2D)
  • If you lose during a game, encourage your opponent. Alvin T (2D)
  • Safely give them a tender hug so they feel comfortable and cared about. Roland T (2D)
  • With care, love others with a loving heart. This is called love. Sarbani K (2M)
  • Tell people about Jesus. Hint: You may need to do it way more than one time. Layla T (2M)
  • Encourage others because you can help them be more brave. Hint: Don’t pressure them too much. Chayse H (2M)
  • Look after people who are sad. Hint: Ask if they want to play or have alone time. Charlie Z (2M)
  • If you ever see a friend in need, help them with a thoughtful word like, “I love you.” Jonan H (2S)
  • Imagine you were happy at the playground. When you see someone fall over, first say, “That’s a really big scrape!” But, make them feel better by saying, “You’re brave and strong.” Titus L (2S)

Years 3 & 4

Integrated Studies Expo – “Our Island Home”

On Monday 22 June, our Year 3 and 4 students proudly showcased their learning at the Integrated Studies Expo, presenting their creative projects from the unit Our Island Home. Families, teachers, and peers enjoyed exploring a vibrant display of imaginative island creations.

Throughout the unit, students designed and built their own unique islands, each based on a specific biome such as grassland, tundra, or arctic environments. This focus guided their decisions as they incorporated geographical features, including mountains, rivers, forests, and coastlines, along with climates and ecosystems suited to their chosen biome.

Students demonstrated creativity and attention to detail by including animals adapted to their environment, designing flags, and constructing detailed maps. A particularly meaningful aspect of the project was how students named their islands, drawing on key landscape features and exploring Aboriginal words to inspire names that reflected each island’s identity.

The Expo was a wonderful celebration of student learning, curiosity, and effort. Students confidently shared their ideas and explained their thinking, showcasing both their knowledge and communication skills.

We are very proud of the Year 3 and 4 students and thank all families and visitors who joined us to support and celebrate their learning.

Year 5

In Year 5, we have been learning some exciting things across all areas of the curriculum! Especially exciting has been Integrated Studies, where we have been busy preparing for our Travel Expo. We have been researching an Asian country—exploring its tourist attractions, stunning landscapes, unique food and culture, and the everyday lives of its people. We have been presenting our information in a variety of ways—posters, brochures, annotated maps—even recipes! On Thursday, we created vibrant stalls full of our creative work and had visitors come to enjoy all of our research. Maybe one day we will get the chance to visit some of the countries we have researched!

Year 6

The last few weeks of Year 6 have been a whirlwind of exciting activities! We took part in the Year 9 Election Program, where we built on our understanding of the Australian Government. We welcomed Mr Aaron Violi, the local MP for Casey, who spoke to us about his experiences as a politician. We also listened to the Year 9 students present their party values and plans for our country as part of their Election Program. One of the highlights was watching the grand final debate, where two of the Year 9 political parties faced off and shared their ideas. We began rehearsals for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR. and loved beginning to develop our characters and learning our songs. It has been a lot of fun so far, and we are looking forward to the performance. Another exciting event was the Integrated Studies Travel Expo. We were proud to showc our hard work to our friends and families when they came to visit. It was great to share what we had learned and see all the amazing projects on display.
