Reconciliation Week

Team Tally, the staff of Tallebudgera State School, are committed to valuing and respecting the cultures, histories and knowledges of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. We continue to learn, connect and act in the spirit of reconciliation to support understanding, respect and positive outcomes for all students.

National Reconciliation Week is held annually from 27 May to 3 June and provides an opportunity for Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to consider how we can all contribute to reconciliation.

In the weeks prior to National Reconciliation Week, teachers deepened their knowledge through a focused professional learning session connected to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures. Throughout Reconciliation Week, students across our school will engage in related learning opportunities. The Australian Curriculum identifies this as a cross-curriculum priority, recognising the importance of ensuring all students have opportunities to deepen their understanding of the world’s oldest continuous living cultures.

Mural

Tally Jarjums and their families were invited to the completion of our new mural, created by professional artist and friend of Tallebudgera State School, Zoey Hart. During the event, Jarjums were able to add their handprints to the mural alongside Zoey while family members watched and enjoyed a light afternoon tea.

Later that day, we held the grand opening, and all students had the opportunity to hear the story represented by the mural and to view the finished artwork.

"The mural ‘Growing Together’ tells the story of children beginning their learning journey at Tallebudgera School and growing with the support of students, staff, families and community.

The dots show connection to Country, learning pathways and shared journeys.

The handprints represent children, teachers, and community walking together.

The fish symbolise learning, movement and caring for local waterways.

Together, these elements celebrate growth, belonging, and the strength that comes from learning on Country, side by side."

Over time, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students will continue to be invited to add their handprints to the mural, allowing it to evolve as a reflection of the First Nations students and families who are a valued part of the Tallebudgera State School community.

Disco

We are looking forward to the disco later this term and thank our P&C members who are busy planning and preparing for this event.

Disco details are communicated via ClassDojo for parents and caregivers. The ticket cutoff date is final, so if you would like your child to attend you will need to purchase a ticket on time using Qkr. Late tickets will not be sold and there are no tickets at the door. We ask that parents and caregivers contact us before the cutoff date if they are experiencing financial difficulty.

Grant

We would like to thank the Currumbin RSL for generously awarding our school a $1,000 Community Grant. This funding will go towards purchasing more equipment for our school’s Student Wellbeing Room. The Wellbeing Room enhances breaktimes by providing children with an increase range of enjoyable activities to do, either in the Wellbeing Room or by borrowing equipment to use outside.

Collaborative Planning

In Week 9, teaching teams will be provided additional time off class, working with our Head of Curriculum and Deputy Principal Teaching, Learning and Curriculum to coordinate the educational programs and assessment for next term. This ensures that we have a high level of consistency and quality planning across all year levels. Effective and systematic curriculum delivery, teaching and assessment is not by chance, it is the result of extensive work behind the scenes and collaborative planning days are only one example of this.

The quality educational program for our students continues on those days and is delivered by our Specialist Teaching Team and additional teachers employed for that purpose.

Report Cards

Report cards will be emailed to parents and carers on Wednesday 24 June. We encourage parents and carers to talk with their children about their report cards, with a focus on their effort. Students need to consistently apply their best effort in order to achieve their full potential.

Active School Travel Breakfast

Our second Active School Travel community breakfast for the year was a wonderful success thanks to the fantastic turnout of our wonderful Tally community. Students gathered at Eddie Kornhauser Park under the supervision of staff and parents/carers, before actively commuting to school together by bike, scooter, skateboard, and on foot.

We sincerely thank our dedicated volunteers, who ensured students began the day with a healthy breakfast, with toast provided by our local Lions Club, fresh fruit from Woolworths, and yoghurt and muesli bars supplied by the school.

Tally Tiger delighted students with special appearances, dancing and having fun with our students, while raffle prizes were drawn to the lucky students and families that had their names drawn.

This event was a fantastic way to conclude the week and celebrate the strong sense of community that we have here at Tally.
