Our Year 1 and 2 students have all been keen to come to school and learn. They are thoroughly enjoying our persuasive writing unit as it gives them an opportunity to express their opinion. We have had some formidable arguments for and against each question.

Most students thought it was best for the teacher to select their seating in the classroom for optimum learning and nearly everyone thought it would be a good idea to learn another language. Although some were a bit nervous of making a mistake while in another country and saying a ‘rude’ word.

Subtraction is the current maths unit and we have been learning a number of strategies to work out the problems. Such as, using a number line, concrete materials, drawing pictures of objects and mental calculations by partitioning numbers.

In Religion, we have been discussing what happens after Easter including the coming of the Holy Spirit. We have done some spectacular colouring of a dove that is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. We used colouring techniques similar to stained glass windows. I have included some below.

We had a fabulous time in History trying to work out who belonged to each baby photo. We discussed how some people were unrecognisable and some had hardly changed at all. No one was able to guess all correctly. We also had a lesson on how the roles in families have changed. I told them that in previous times, women had to resign from work once they became married. One girl replied ‘that would be great’, I responded with yes if that is what you would like to do but not if you wanted to keep working.

In sport we have been preparing for the athletics carnival revising the skills required for the day. At home you could do some running together to build up their stamina for such a big day for little people.
