Foundation
Welcome back to Term 3.
In Literacy, the children have begun learning how to retell stories using a simple template with visual icons. These prompts help them remember the important parts of a story, including the characters, problems and ending.
We were also very fortunate to welcome Robyn back to our classroom. The children thoroughly enjoyed listening to her read the delightful story Bob and Dob. They have been working hard on retelling and writing the story, so stay tuned—on Friday they will be excited to read their story of Bob and Dob to you at home.

This term
This term we are focusing on spelling mastery, cooking and year 6 to 7 transition. In Spelling Mastery we are learning to be better at spelling to help us with writing and paragraphs. In cooking we are learning an important life skill. This learning path helps us to be able to cook advanced foods. During the transition we will learn to step up and be more mature.
Next week
Next week, we have a special event that happens every year - ATHLETICS! It will be a suspenseful competition between the two houses ANSETT and JACKA!
Commonwealth Games
In inquiry we will be focusing on the Commonwealth Games. Seventy-four countries from around the globe will compete in this breathtaking event, including Australia. There will be over 3000 athletes competing for their countries. It is being held in Glasgow, Scotland this year,2026.
Book week
Book week is an exciting time to dress up as your favourite characters from an interesting book. There are many amazing characters to choose from and it's lots of fun. As you walk in front of students they gaze and admire your wonderful costume.
Reading Olympics
Reading Olympics is a fun way to earn new interesting books by reading at least 10 to 15 minutes every night and getting your parent/guardian to quickly sign your diary. Fun rewards are given to those who try and consistently participate.
History and Geography
In history and geography we are learning about our planet earth, refugees and asylum seekers,old modes of transportation, how people moved away from war,why they moved and that they need citizenship if you come from another country.

Year 11
Welcome Back – Semester 2!
Welcome back to the second half of the year! We hope everyone had a relaxing break and is feeling refreshed and ready for another busy semester. There are plenty of exciting events and opportunities ahead, so it's shaping up to be another fantastic term.
Firstly, a huge congratulations to Aidan on completing the Kokoda Track Trek. This is an incredible achievement and one that will create memories and lessons that will last a lifetime. It has been wonderful to hear some of Aidan's stories and experiences since his return. We'd also like to acknowledge and thank the Wedderburn & Korong Vale RSL for their continued support in providing this amazing opportunity for our students.
A reminder to keep an eye on Compass throughout the term, as this is where important information, permission forms and updates about upcoming events will be communicated.
Subject selections for 2027 are now underway. If you haven't already done so, please ensure your selections are completed and returned to Mrs Woodman and Mrs Barker as soon as possible.
One of the highlights of the term is just around the corner, with our annual House Athletics Carnival on Friday 31st July. It's always a fantastic day of fun, competition and house spirit. In the words of Mr Lockhart...
"TURN UP, DRESS UP and PARTICIPATE!"
There are prizes on offer for the homeroom with the best attendance, so let's make sure we all get involved and support our houses.

Remember that some events will occur before the day, so keep an eye out on Compass for details of when the 800m, 1500m and Javelin take place.
Finally, a reminder that Learning Conversations have been postponed due to industrial action. If you would like an update on your child's progress, please don't hesitate to contact their teachers—we're always happy to share the great work and growth we're seeing in our students.
Mr G's Study Tip – Little and Often Wins Every Time
Don't wait until the night before a SAC or exam to start revising.
Spend 15–20 minutes after each lesson reviewing your notes, completing a couple of practice questions, or testing yourself on key vocabulary. Small, consistent study sessions are far more effective than one big cram session.

Year 12
Year 12: The Critical Mid-Year Period
As we move through Semester 2, our Year 12 students are entering one of the most important stages of their secondary education. The coming months will play a significant role in determining their final VCE results and, ultimately, the opportunities available to them beyond school.
Success in Year 12 does not happen by accident. It is the result of consistent effort, effective study habits, and a commitment to learning both inside and outside the classroom. While attending classes, participating in lessons, and completing schoolwork are essential, they are only part of what is required to achieve strong outcomes.
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) expects students to undertake regular independent study beyond the school day. Revising class content, completing practice questions, reviewing feedback, preparing for SACs, and studying for examinations are all critical components of success. Students who rely solely on the work completed during school hours often find themselves disappointed when results do not reflect their aspirations.
This is also a time when students may need to make difficult choices about how they spend their time. Social commitments, part-time work, sporting activities, and other interests are important parts of a balanced life, but there may be periods where these need to be reduced or placed on hold to allow students to focus on their academic goals. Every student must consider what sacrifices they are willing to make in order to achieve their personal best.
The support of families is invaluable during this period. Encouragement, understanding, and the provision of a suitable study environment can make a significant difference to a student’s success. Parents and carers can assist by helping students establish regular study routines, monitoring competing commitments, and reinforcing the importance of consistent effort and perseverance.
Year 12 is a marathon, not a sprint. The students who achieve their best results are often those who remain focused, disciplined, and committed throughout the entire year. While the months ahead will be challenging, they also provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate resilience, determination, and personal growth.
We encourage all Year 12 students to reflect on their goals, make the most of the support available to them, and commit to the study habits necessary to achieve the best possible outcome. The effort invested now will be reflected in the results they receive at the end of the year.
Year 10 VCE Information Evening
Thank you to all Year 10 students and families who attended our VCE Information Evening on Monday 13 July. It was wonderful to see so many families taking the opportunity to learn more about senior pathways, subject choices and the transition into VCE and VCE Vocational Major studies.
A special thank you goes to our Year 11 and 12 student presenters, Tyson, Dakota and Jamie. They represented the school with confidence and professionalism, sharing their experiences honestly and responding thoughtfully to questions from the audience. Having both VCE and VCE VM students represented provided families with valuable insight into the different senior pathways available at Wedderburn College.
Current Year 10 students are reminded that their completed Expression of Interest forms are due to the VCE Coordinator’s office by Monday 27 July. Mrs Woodman will meet with all Year 10 students before this date to discuss their interests, subject selections and possible senior pathways.
The information provided through these forms will guide future course counselling conversations and assist the school with planning subject offerings for 2027. Students and families are encouraged to continue discussing subject choices and to seek further advice where needed.
