Grade 5/6 Newsletter

During Applied Literacy, this week, the students have been learning about High Modality words whilst writing their persuasive texts.
They have been learning how these words are used to express a strong opinion and support the writer to persuade the reader.
As part of their Maths lessons Grade 5/6 students have been using concrete materials to create arrays to continue triangular number patters and find multiples of numbers.
This week students in Year 5 have begun their new Systemic Knowledge unit connected to Health and Physical Education.
This unit will touch on elements of puberty and body changes although, a more in-depth unit around this content will be taught later in the year.

During SEL lessons, Grade 5 have been learning to identify emotions through facial expressions and body language.
And as part of their SEL lessons, the Grade 6 students took part in a live Webex meet with the awesome people from Kids Helpline. They were learning about 'Being Kind Online'.
The students learnt about the importance of making positive and respectful social decisions online, acknowledging and overcoming challenges when trying to be kind online, understanding and respecting both their own and others’ online boundaries and strategies to communicate messages clearly and respectfully.
