Garden To Kitchen

It has been a wonderful fortnight in our Garden Kitchen Program – Engaging with Place, with students continuing to enjoy hands-on learning in our newly restored garden and kitchen spaces.

Throughout the past two weeks, every class has spent time in the garden caring for our growing produce. Students have been watering, weeding, observing plant growth, planting new seedlings and learning how healthy gardens thrive through care and teamwork.

This week, for National Science Week – “Seeds of Science – Nurturing Knowledge For All,” we focused on seeds; what they represent, how they grow, what they produce and how some seeds can be used in cooking and baking!  We explored the different edible parts of plants for example leaves including lettuce and spinach, stems including celery and rhubarb, roots such as carrots, flowers such as broccoli, and fruits such as apples.  Students enjoyed making energy snack balls containing different seeds (and learning about the health benefits of eating seeds) as well as the opportunity to plant their own seed to take home to nurture!

Last week our students enjoyed preparing and tasting potato, carrot and zucchini fritters served with a herb yoghurt made with freshly harvested herbs and potatoes from our school garden!

It has been wonderful to see students demonstrating responsibility, teamwork and safe food preparation skills as they work together in the kitchen. They have also enjoyed reflecting on their garden and kitchen experiences through drawings and journal writing, recording their observations, learning and favourite moments.

Looking forward to more enjoyable sessions in the garden and kitchen together this semester!

Science Week: 15th- 23rd August (Week 6)

To celebrate Science Week 2026, our Grade F-6 students visited the Discovery Centre in Bendigo on Wednesday 19th August.  Staff and students travelled by bus to and from the centre and enjoyed participating in three different activities throughout the day including a brick motion workshop, exploring the general exhibits and trying out the vertical slide (if they dared!)  The hands-on brick motion workshop, led by the Bendigo Art Gallery Learn Team, allowed students to build and animate LEGO® creations while exploring art, movement and the basics of animation through fun, creative activities.

From all reports, the students had a wonderful day to mark National Science Week!

Special thanks to our wonderful staff who supported our students in this learning experience.

Some of our students enjoyed the opportunity to take home a Science Week Quiz...a great learning opportunity with the family.  Please return these on Monday and stay tuned for some special prizes!
