A Message from the Principal
Dear Families and Friends
Over the past few weeks, I have been reminded of just how special our Salvado Catholic College community is. Through Book Week, our annual Book Fair, Open Night, and the outstanding achievements of our students in the performing and visual arts, I have had many opportunities to witness our young people embracing challenges, sharing their talents and celebrating one another's successes.
This year's Book Week theme, A Symphony of Stories, was a beautiful reminder of the way stories connect us, inspire us and help us make sense of the world around us. Throughout the week, students immersed themselves in activities that celebrated literature and storytelling, while our annual Book Fair provided families with an opportunity to discover new books and nurture a love of reading at home. My sincere thanks go to Mrs Kate Hendriks, whose passion and dedication helped make this much-loved event such a success.
Our Open Night was another wonderful celebration of learning. It was a joy to welcome families into our classrooms and learning spaces and to see students proudly sharing their work, achievements and learning journeys. There is something incredibly special about watching a child explain their learning with confidence and enthusiasm. Moments like these remind us of the power of the partnership between school and home and the important role we all play in supporting our young people.
I was also delighted to celebrate the achievements of our students in the performing arts. Our Primary Choir represented the College beautifully through their participation in both the Catholic Performing Arts Festival and One Big Voice. Their enthusiasm, confidence and joy in performing were evident for all to see. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Mrs Stephanie Port, whose passion, dedication and leadership were instrumental in the choir's success, and to Mr Paul Leeder for his valued support.
Another special highlight was attending the Angelico Exhibition as part of the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. It was a privilege to see the creativity of young artists from across Western Australia and an even greater privilege to celebrate the success of our own Grace Huxley-Hambly, who received the prestigious Fra Angelico Award, one of the festival's highest honours.
Grace's award-winning piece, Komorebi (a Japanese word meaning "sunlight filtering through the trees"), captivated judges through its thoughtful expression of faith, exceptional creativity and refined technical skill. Receiving the Fra Angelico Award is a remarkable achievement and one that fills our College community with immense pride. I also wish to acknowledge Mrs Alicia Gilbert, whose guidance, encouragement and commitment to the Arts have played an important role in supporting Grace's artistic growth. Grace's success is a wonderful example of what can happen when talent, dedication and creativity are nurtured and encouraged to flourish.
As I reflect on these past few weeks, I am reminded that every student at Salvado has unique gifts to offer. Whether through reading, music, visual art, faith or classroom learning, our students continue to inspire us with their courage, kindness, creativity and willingness to embrace new opportunities. Seeing them grow in confidence, support one another and discover their passions is one of the greatest privileges of being part of this community.
This weekend, some of our students will take another important step in their faith journey as they receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. We keep these students and their families in our prayers as they celebrate this special occasion. May it be a day filled with joy, love and treasured memories, and may they continue to grow in their relationship with Christ.
I feel incredibly grateful to share in the journey of these young people and to witness the many ways they enrich our College community each day.
