Values Education

As parents of St Monica’s students, you play an vital role in reinforcing the values that help young people grow into compassionate, responsible, and respectful adults. At St Monica’s, we actively promote the values of Compassion, Forgiveness, Humility, Generosity, Peace, and Love of Neighbour, helping students develop both strong character and positive relationships.

Compassion is taught through wellbeing programs, peer support initiatives, and everyday opportunities to care for others. Students may check in on a classmate who is having a difficult day, support peers during group work, or participate in activities that raise awareness of wider social issues.

Forgiveness is encouraged through restorative practices that help students learn from mistakes and repair relationships. For example, when disagreements arise, students are guided to listen, apologise sincerely, and work towards positive solutions rather than holding onto resentment.

Through Humility, students learn to recognise the strengths of others, accept constructive feedback, and celebrate team achievements. Whether on the sporting field, in the classroom, or in co-curricular activities, students are encouraged to show gratitude and place the needs of the group above personal recognition.

Generosity is fostered through fundraising events, food and clothing drives, charity appeals, and volunteering opportunities. Students learn that generosity extends beyond money and includes giving time, encouragement, and support to others.

Peace is promoted by teaching respectful communication, conflict-resolution skills, and responsible use of social media. Students learn to disagree respectfully, seek understanding, and contribute positively to their school community.

Love of Neighbour is lived out through inclusive practices and acts of kindness. Students are encouraged to welcome new classmates, stand up for those who may feel excluded, assist younger students, and show respect to people from all backgrounds and cultures.

These values are woven throughout classroom learning, co-curricular activities, liturgies, assemblies, and service opportunities. When schools and families work together to model these qualities, students are better equipped to make positive choices, build meaningful relationships, and contribute to their communities with empathy, integrity, and respect. By nurturing these values, we help our young people become confident, caring citizens who make a positive difference in the world.
