Class Captain and Badano Ambassador Formation Day
Student leaders from across our three College Campuses - DRC, SGC and DSC, recently came together for the Class Captain and Badano Ambassador Formation Day, a day dedicated to developing leadership, strengthening connections and exploring what it truly means to lead within our College community.
Leadership at our College is about more than holding a title or wearing a badge. It is about service, responsibility and the way we choose to treat and support others. The Formation Day encouraged students to recognise that every leader has the opportunity to positively influence the culture of their class, campus and wider College community.
The day was structured around four important questions. Students began with “Who am I?”, reflecting on the example of Chiara Badano and the question, “Who do I choose to be?” This encouraged students to consider their own character, values and the type of leader they want to become.
The second session explored “How do I lead?”, introducing students to the concept of servant leadership. Students considered how strong leadership is demonstrated through listening, humility, compassion and a willingness to serve others rather than simply seeking authority or recognition.
The third session asked, “Who am I responsible for?” Through a focus on human dignity and inclusion, students reflected on their responsibility to notice others, ensure people feel valued and included, and help create a College environment where every person is treated with respect.
Finally, students considered “What am I going to do?” The focus shifted from ideas to leadership in action, challenging each student to think about practical ways they can make a difference in their classes and across their campuses.
Bringing together student leaders from DRC, SGC and DSC was an important reminder that, while our students learn across three campuses, they belong to one College community. The Formation Day provided an opportunity for our Class Captains/Badano Ambassadors to build relationships, share ideas and recognise that leadership begins with the everyday choices they make to serve, include, encourage and lead by example.
During the Class Captain/Badano Ambassador Formation Day, I learned about the importance of servant leadership and how we, as leaders, can work to make a positive impact on our school community, whether it was through a project, campaign, or just by being there for someone. We explored how good leaders listen to each other, work collaboratively, put the needs of others first, and work to support those around them. Through various discussions and activities, I gained a further understanding on how small actions can work towards creating a more inclusive school environment. This experience encouraged me to think about the various ways I can contribute to change, inspiring me to be a better, more empathetic leader.

The Class Captain/Badano Ambassador Formation Day was a meaningful and engaging experience that gave us the opportunity to reflect on our role as student leaders. Throughout the day, we explored the values that underpin leadership and considered how we can positively influence our school community. We were encouraged to think about our responsibilities as leaders and the importance of serving others through the lens of servant leadership, inspired by the example of Blessed Chiara Badano. The day challenged us to grow in confidence, compassion, and integrity, while also bringing us together as a leadership team with a shared commitment to making a positive difference.
