DRAWING CLUB

During Book Week, some Year 4 students and members of Art Club explored this year’s theme, Symphony of Story. Students learnt about Andy Griffiths, as well as the important role of authors and illustrators in bringing stories to life. They also explored the work of illustrator Briony Stewart and discussed how pictures, colour and storytelling can work together.

Inspired by Briony Stewart’s illustrations, students created colourful musical instrument designs using Magiclay. They explored colour harmony by choosing a primary colour and selecting neighbouring colours from the colour wheel. Students then carefully layered small pieces of Magiclay onto their instrument designs, creating bright and textured artworks that connected music, colour, art and storytelling.

YEAR 6

In Year 6, students explored the unique modelling techniques of Barbara Reid while creating vibrant Sea Creature Plasticine Paintings inspired by her artwork. They began by learning about Barbara Reid’s artistic style and carefully planned a detailed sea creature design, incorporating pattern, texture and shape. Students then developed their modelling skills by rolling, pressing, layering and blending plasticine to create form and texture. As their artworks progressed, they built their sea creatures and added colourful ocean backgrounds featuring coral, seaweed and bubbles to create depth and interest. Throughout the unit, students refined their work by adding intricate details and thoughtful finishing touches. They proudly displayed their completed artworks, reflected on the techniques they had used, explained the inspiration behind their creations and demonstrated excellent creativity, craftsmanship and attention to detail.
