Tournament of Minds

Kilvington students put their problem solving to the test in this year’s Tournament of Minds, with five teams competing in the Regional competition at Deakin University in August.

Our Years 5/6 and Year 9 teams both received Honours, finishing second in their respective challenges. The judges were impressed by the students’ creative thinking and collaborative approach throughout the competition. The Year 9 team then received a wildcard entry to the State Finals, allowing them to compete early in September to accommodate their expedition commitments. They once again achieved Honours, a fantastic result against strong competition.

Congratulations to Bryan Hyang, Viraj Martin, Zoe McInnes, Deeksha Chandra, Sam Loft, Arjun Paniker and Dean Zheng on their achievements and commitment to this challenging and rewarding competition.

Battle of the Books

On Friday, 15 students from Years 7 and 8 travelled to St Leonard's College to compete against three teams of their students in the annual Battle of the Books competition. All students have been reading six books over the past few weeks to prepare for the competition and battled it out in three fierce rounds. Due to a draw, it went to a nail-biting tiebreaker round which Kilvington won (2-1)! MVP was Gemma Hartman who shone, but all students worked hard and showed real graciousness with the St Leonard's students between rounds. 

My Brother Jack Awards

We are delighted to congratulate Reina Xu (Year 3), who was shortlisted as a finalist in the 2026 My Brother Jack Awards. This is an outstanding achievement and wonderful recognition of Reina’s passion for writing, creativity and talent. At the awards ceremony, held at Glen Eira Town Hall on Sunday 6 September, Reina was presented with a Highly Commended award in the Primary section, competing alongside talented writers from Year 3 to Year 6. Being selected as a finalist in these significant awards is a remarkable accomplishment. Congratulations, Reina! We are incredibly proud of your achievement.

Oli Brings Home Two Bronze Medals

Congratulations to Oli Heggie, who returned from the School Sports Australia Games with two bronze medals - one in the 16 Years Boys Knockout event and another in the 15–16 Mixed Synchro. Oli made the transition from gymnastics to diving just a couple of years ago, making this achievement even more impressive. Well done, Oli! 

Outstanding results at the Victorian State Band Championships

Congratulations to Lucas (6M), Thomas (5M) and Henry (4G), who performed with their brass band, Hyde Street Youth Band, at the 2026 Victorian State Band Championships.

The boys competed in both the Junior C and Junior A divisions, with Junior A the highest youth category in Australia, and Hyde Street Youth Band took out first place in both sections, an incredible achievement for the ensemble.
