Year 7 Day out!

On Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th August all of our Year 7 students travelled into the city to peak their curiosity about Ancient Australia ahead of our next Humanities unit. At Melbourne Museum we started by exploring the Milarri Garden discovering how native plants have been traditionally used for food or medicine. Then we ventured inside to the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre where we learnt about the history, culture, achievements and survival of Victoria's Aboriginal people. We also attended the Birrarung Wilam (River Camp) Walk along the Birrarung (Yarra River) at Koorie Heritage Trust at Federation Square. There we learnt about how the landscape of the river has changed over time and the traditional, and ongoing, importance of the river, for the Kulin peoples. We returned to Federation Square to learn about, and hold, traditional tools and weapons.
Well done to all our Year 7 students for their participation, engagement and behaviour on the day. They asked some fabulous questions and demonstrated our school values beautifully. Thank you to the staff who attended to help make this a memorable and fun day out.
