Reading
Students have just finished the novel Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow, exploring its themes, characters and world-building. They then applied their comprehension skills to a non-fiction text, “Migaloo the White Whale,” making connections between fiction and real-world information.
Writing
The Grade 6’s have completed their fantasy narratives, showcasing strong use of figurative language and other refined writing techniques. Many of the students were incredibly proud of their narratives, sharing them with one another. Upcoming in the next few weeks we will be beginning informative writing, where students will learn to present facts clearly and effectively.
Maths
In maths, students have been working on converting fractions, decimals and percentages. They’ve practised moving between these forms and applying their understanding to real-life scenarios.
VR Incursion
The Grade 6’s had the opportunity to participate in a VR incursion. The students were very excited to get to experience using a VR device, especially the students who do not own one!
Our hosts explained what a VR device is, how they work and how to use them. Once the students were ready - off they went! They completed multiple tasks and interactive games within the session including a game of fruit ninja.
Cyber Safety Incursion
Our Grade 6 students participated in an important cyber safety incursion. The session focused on helping students become safer and more responsible digital citizens.
Students learned how to create strong, secure passwords, why it’s important to protect their personal information, and how quickly details can be uncovered when too much is shared online. They practised identifying personal information from a mock social media profile, seeing firsthand how easily someone’s identity or location can be pieced together.
The incursion sparked thoughtful discussion and gave students practical strategies they can use immediately when navigating the online world.
Rugby Tag Clinic
Our Grade 6 students recently took part in an energetic and enjoyable rugby clinic. During the session, they learned and practised key rugby skills, including passing, catching, evasion techniques and teamwork.
Students then put these skills into action by participating in tag rugby games, which allowed them to build confidence, cooperate with peers and stay active in a fun, supportive environment.
