Grade 4

Reading

The Year Four crew have been diving into His Name Was Walter, and they’ve handled it like absolute champs. They’ve followed the mystery with growing curiosity, picking up on clues, predicting twists, and sharpening their comprehension along the way. The shifting stories and hidden messages have pushed them to think deeply about characters, motives, and how past and present connect. They’ve had great discussions about empathy, courage, and how stories can help us understand people better. Overall? They’ve shown strong engagement, thoughtful reflection, and some impressive detective skills.

Writing

The Grade 4s have been busy crafting their own narratives, diving into story structure like little authors on a mission. They’ve been planning characters, building settings, and shaping plots with clear beginnings, middles, and endings. They’re learning how to hook the reader, add detail that actually matters, and wrap their stories up without leaving anyone hanging. In short—they’re levelling up their storytelling game, and doing a pretty solid job of it.

Maths

In Maths, students have been exploring chance and probability through everyday examples and a hands-on dice activity. We’ve been talking about how likely different events are to happen,  from things that are almost certain to things that are very unlikely. Using dice, students tested which numbers might come up and compared their predictions to what actually happened. They began noticing that even when each roll is independent, the results can still vary each time, which led to some great discussions about why outcomes don’t always match our expectations.

Additional Subjects

In Civics and Citizenship, students have been learning about why we have rules and what makes them work. We’ve talked about how people create rules to keep everyone safe, organised and treated fairly. Students have also been exploring the difference between rules and laws, who makes them, who enforces them, and why laws are so important for the whole community.
