Hello prep families!
Library
This week our buddies took us to the library to borrow some library books for the first time! We borrowed 1-2 books we would love to read with you at home. From next week, we will have library every 2 weeks. Please make sure you bring back the library books on Wednesday the 6th of May. Returning books on time ensures that we can borrow more in a timely manner!
Literacy
This week in our phonics lessons, we met Yasmin the yak and Roxy the rabbit. We identified the first sound in Yasmin’s name as /y/ and the first sound in Roxy’s name as /r/.
For Reading, we looked at the book ‘In Every House On Every Street’ and continued to make text-to-self connections between the families in the book and our families. We also discussed how we can guess what a character is feeling based on the pictures and words, and shared times we have felt the same feeling.
In Writing, we explored what a sentence is. We learnt that every sentence is a group of words that must have a capital letter, a subject, a verb (a doing/action word), and a full stop. Have a look at our new interactive sentence display we made!
Maths
In Maths, we started looking at addition and patterns! We used unifix blocks to help us add two parts together to make a whole! We explored showing this as number bonds and number sentences. Later in the week we continued and created our own simple patterns with objects from the classroom. Our class is full of mathematicians who blew me away!
We also worked out that as of Wednesday this week, we have been at school for 48 days!
Inquiry
Students shared their family photos this week for Inquiry. It was so lovely to see them stand up and share their special memories. Thank you all so much for your support in the task; it was a very rewarding experience for the students.
