Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge 2025
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open until 5 September and our school is excited to be taking part!
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 and aims to help young readers develop a lifelong love of reading.
It is not a competition; it is a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 5 September 2025. The challenge recognises the importance of reading for literacy development. All students have been registered to be part of the challenge but the challenge is not compulsory.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers (including 20 books from the challenge booklist). Children from Year 3 to Year 6 are challenged to read 15 books (including 10 from the challenge booklist).
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
This year, the Challenge is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the theme ‘20 years of words and wonder’ and a year of special activities. For details, follow the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge Facebook
Since it began in 2005, more than 4.5 million young readers have taken part and together read more than 63 million books!
To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge
To log in as a student you must use a username and password that has been registered through the school (available from your child’s teacher or from the office). Parents and children are able to access the internet site, view the details and add books when completed. To assist students in choosing library books on the challenge list we have placed a white dot on the cover of some of our books.
Once you have added all of the books that your child has read and they have completed the challenge, the list needs to be verified by the school office. Please add all books that have been read to the website by 1st September 2025 to ensure the office staff have time to verify all entries.
To check your child’s details and to add books follow these instructions:
- Go to www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challengeand click on 'register and log in'
- Click on the link to Log into the Premiers’ Reading Challenge application
