Dear Families

Catholic Education Week 16th – 23th  March 2025

Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne to celebrate their Catholic identity, the pivotal role they play within their local community and the strength of the sector.

The theme for Catholic Education Week 2025 is ‘Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you (Is 60: 1)' which draws from the motto of the Holy Year, the Year of Jubilee, and the Australian Catholic Youth Festival’s theme – ‘Pilgrims of Hope’.

Catholic education strives to make a difference in the lives of those in our schools and in the wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and walk the way of the gospel to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society.

At St Anthony's our Catholic beliefs and School Values permeate all aspects of the integrated inquiry approach and into all curriculum areas, where we focus on critical thinking and an understanding of our Catholic faith in a changing world. The children are encouraged to care for others by understanding that they as individuals are cared for and valued and have the potential and duty to reach out to the wider community.

Each student is unique, and we provide experiences for rich dialogue with others allowing them to form their own understandings and make deep connections with their faith.

On Monday 17 March the students are invited to wear a splash of green to school in remembrance of the  group of Irish priests and nuns who set up the first Catholic Schools in Australia wanting to carry on the Catholic Traditions.

Holt District Swimming Carnival

What a fantastic effort our students showed when they represented our school in the Swimming Carnival held at Oakleigh Swimming Pool  They eagerly took party in all the events with great vigor and stamina.  This year a number of students (Dion, Andy, Charlie and Lucas)  have qualified to go on to the Beachside District Events which is a Melbourne wide schools event.   Congratulations to all students - it's a bonus when they also have fun and work together as a fantastic team. Thank you to the parents who eagerly supported our group of athletes.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Day

A special thank you to Naobh, Efra, Iskra, Hannah, Indra, Elena and Anna for all your help with cooking and serving up the delicious pancakes on Tuesday.  The children's smiling faces summed up their enjoyment.

Ash Wednesday

Last Wednesday the staff and students attended a special mass in the Padua Pavilion to mark the start of the Lenten Season of the Church which is the  period of 40 days which comes before Easter. Traditionally, Ash Wednesday is a day to remember God’s holiness and our misgivings. Christians are marked with an ash cross as a symbolic reminder of trying to shift our focus from the business of our lives and make Christ central to all that we do.

Ash Wednesday is a wonderful opportunity to make oneself 100% available to God!

Car Safety

It has been brought to the school's attention that there are number of parents who need to take more care when dropping off their children at school.  In particular, parents who are not giving way to pedestrians when turning the corner to gain access in the side streets. Also there are those who are not using the pedestrian crossing and cutting across from the side streets.

Fees & Levies 2025

Families are reminded that the first fees instalment (one third of the total) is due today (7th March 2025).  If you wish to pay via regular instalments (weekly, fortnightly, or monthly) with the account to be finalised by November, please contact the office.

Sincere regards
