Milestones and Celebrations
As Term 4 continues to gather momentum, key events and important dates are approaching quickly. One of the highlights of the year will be our 2026 College Awards Night, which will be held on Thursday 22 October, (5:00 – 7:00pm).
This year’s event carries a special sense of nostalgia, as we move the Awards Night off-site to one of Hobsons Bay’s most significant heritage and community venues, The Substation in Newport.
The Substation has a unique connection to our college dating back to the mid-1990s. Following the closure of the Newport Substation in the late 1960s, the building fell into decades of decline and vandalism. In 1996, local resident, glazier and former Managing Director of Bayview Glass, Darren Williams, successfully co-led a community campaign to save the building from further neglect and possible demolition. Bayside College hired Bayview Glass for work required at the college. As part of this restoration project, Bayside College contributed to the redevelopment, including sponsoring one of the building’s large windowpanes.
Since its reopening, The Substation has become a thriving community arts and cultural venue. Over the years, Bayside College students have regularly engaged with the space through community arts programs, performing arts experiences, and local exhibitions.
The Awards Night publicly recognises the academic, sporting, and artistic hard work of our students from primary and secondary students. It also recognises the endeavours of students who provide their best efforts in academic and physical areas of their schoolwork boosting self-esteem and motivating peers to excel.
Further information regarding event times and ticketing arrangements have been provided to families and staff. Due to the capacity of the venue, attendance will be managed through TryBooking, with all guests required to reserve a seat prior to the event.
We look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students and sharing this special evening with our school community in such a significant local venue.
Parent & Carer Opinion Survey 2026
The 2026 Parent/Caregiver Opinion Survey was conducted online from 17 August to 18 September 2026. This year, we experienced a significant increase in parent and carer participation compared to previous years, resulting in one of our strongest response rates to date. I would like to sincerely thank all families who took the time to contribute their feedback.
The survey provides an important opportunity for the College to listen to the voices of our parents and carers, helping us to continually improve our practices and strengthen our connection with the wider community.
The survey data has been collected by the Department's research provider, ORIMA Research, and the results will be made available to the College later this term. Once received, the findings will be carefully analysed and used to inform future planning and improvement initiatives. A summary of the results will be shared with the community through a range of channels, including the College newsletter, College Council, staff briefings, and the College’s 2026 Annual Report.
