Message from the Principal
As we approach the end of Term 3, I have been reflecting on my first term as Principal of Preston High School. Since commencing in the role, I have been struck by the warmth, ambition and sense of purpose that define this community. What has impressed me most is the way our students and staff bring our vision of*"Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders"* to life every day through their learning, relationships and contributions to the school.
Preston High School's commitment to Excellence, Inclusion and Community, together with our motto of Lead, Explore, Inspire, is clearly evident in all aspects of school life.
This term has provided countless examples of these values in action.
One of the highlights was our School Production, which showcased the extraordinary talent, dedication and teamwork of our students and staff. From performers on stage to the students working behind the scenes, the production reflected the creativity, courage and collaboration that make Preston High School such a special place.
Term Three highlights
Our Cohort 2029 students have been focused on future pathways through the completion of their Morrisby interviews and participation in resume writing workshops. These experiences have encouraged students to reflect on their strengths, interests and aspirations while developing practical skills that will support future education, training and employment opportunities.
Our VCE Vocational Major students continued to strengthen connections with the wider community through their collaboration with Bridge Darebin. Through authentic learning experiences and community engagement, students have demonstrated the importance of contributing beyond themselves and making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Sport has also been a significant area of achievement this term. Across a range of interschool competitions, students have represented Preston High School with pride, determination and outstanding sportsmanship. A special congratulations goes to our chess teams, whose exceptional performances and successes reflect the strategic thinking, persistence and commitment that we value as learners.
Student connection and enrichment
Student wellbeing remains at the centre of our work, and our participation in R U OK? Day provided an important opportunity to strengthen conversations around connection, belonging and mental health. The willingness of students and staff to check in on one another demonstrates the inclusive and supportive culture we continue to build together.
The arts have once again flourished at Preston High School. Our recent Spring Concert celebrated the talents of our musicians and performers, providing a wonderful evening for families and community members while highlighting the richness of our co-curricular programs.
Learning beyond the classroom has also enriched student experiences this term. Students undertaking Philosophy, Business Management, Biology, Drama and Chinese participated in excursions that extended their learning, challenged their thinking and helped them make meaningful connections between their studies and the wider world.
Our Cohort 2031 students recently participated in a Meet the Author session with acclaimed Australian author Danielle Binks as part of their English studies. Danielle shared insights into the writing and publishing process, inspiring students to think critically about storytelling while encouraging a deeper appreciation of literature and creative writing.
Book Week and Science Week provided students with exciting opportunities to celebrate both creativity and curiosity. Through a range of engaging activities, students explored the power of stories, embraced a love of reading, and participated in hands-on scientific investigations that encouraged inquiry, innovation and critical thinking. These events highlighted the enthusiasm with which our students engage in learning across a diverse range of disciplines.
Looking ahead to next term
As we look towards the final weeks of the year, there are many important milestones and events ahead. We look forward to celebrating the achievements of our graduating students at the Cohort 2026 Graduation, recognising their growth, perseverance and contribution to the life of the school.
Our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences will provide an important opportunity for families and teachers to continue working in partnership to support student success. We are also eagerly anticipating the Kingfisher Carnival, one of the most loved events on our school calendar and a wonderful celebration of participation, connection and house spirit.
For our senior students, attention is increasingly turning to the upcoming VCE examinations. We wish all students undertaking examinations the very best as they prepare for this important stage of their educational journey. Their dedication and resilience throughout the year have been commendable, and we are confident they will approach the coming weeks with focus and determination.
As I complete my first term at Preston High School, I would like to thank our students, families and staff for the support and trust you have shown me. It is clear that this is a school community that embraces excellence, values diversity, and genuinely seeks to make a positive impact. I feel privileged to be part of the next chapter of Preston High School's journey and look forward to continuing to Lead, Explore and Inspire alongside our community.
