A Joyful Start to the Year (K–4)

What a wonderful beginning we’ve had to the school year! Across our K–4 learning spaces, the enthusiasm and positivity have been contagious. Students have returned with bright smiles, curious minds and a genuine eagerness to learn, while teachers have welcomed them with warmth, energy and a strong sense of purpose.

From the very first days, classrooms have been buzzing with excitement as relationships are re-established, routines are gently embedded and learning comes alive. It has been heartening to see students settling so confidently, supporting one another and embracing the opportunities that BIG school brings.

We are incredibly proud of the way our teachers and students have launched into the year together — with joy, optimism and a shared commitment to making 2026 a year of growth, connection and success for all.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to our parents and caregivers for your strong attendance at this week’s Meet the Teacher information sessions. Your presence, engagement and ongoing support play a vital role in helping your children settle confidently into the school year. Working in partnership with families has been key to such a successful commencement to the 2026 school year, and we are grateful for the trust and collaboration you continue to show as we support each child’s learning journey.

As we look ahead, we are excited for the term before us and the many opportunities it will bring for learning, growth and faith-filled moments as we journey together as a K–4 community.

Enjoy the week ahead!

Stage 1

A Roaring Start for the Lions!

The first week back has been a fantastic opportunity to meet new teachers, reconnect with friends and begin an exciting year of learning. Together, students have created their classroom promises, helping to ensure our learning environment is happy, safe and respectful for everyone.

The Lions have enjoyed settling into their new upstairs learning spaces and have adapted beautifully to their routines. They have approached the year with enthusiasm and a positive attitude, and we are so proud of the way they have embraced this fresh start.

We look forward to a fantastic year of learning, growth and success together.

Wizards

Year 1 Wizards have had a wonderful start to the term!

Over the first few weeks, students have been learning and practising important routines such as using the stairs safely, lining up independently in the mornings and after recess and lunch, and following classroom expectations that we established together as a class.

The students have settled in beautifully and have embraced the beginning of Year 1 with enthusiasm. They are demonstrating positive attitudes towards their learning and are showing what it means to be safe and respectful learners, both in the classroom and in the playground.

It has been especially heartwarming to see students supporting one another and warmly welcoming new classmates into our Year 1 Wizards classroom and the St Luke’s community.

We look forward to many more exciting weeks of learning and a fantastic year ahead.

Shining Bright in Year 2 – The Glindas!

What a fantastic start to Year 2 for the Glindas!

In their first week back, students have been busy getting to know one another, learning new classroom routines and demonstrating a positive attitude as they strive to do their very best each day.

Together, we co-constructed Glinda’s Classroom Promises. As shown in the photos below, these promises reflect our shared commitment to making Year 2 a happy, safe and respectful place to learn. Our Expectations Jar has already begun to fill as students make positive choices throughout the day.

Mr Quack (also pictured below) has taken on the important role of Classroom Expectations Monitor, helping us keep track of our great choices! Once the jar is full, the Glindas will celebrate their success with a special free-choice activity.

We are so proud of the wonderful start they have made and are excited for a magical year of learning ahead.

A Strong Start for the Tinmen!

The Tinmen have had a wonderful first week back at school! They have settled in beautifully, and it has been a joy to see everyone getting to know one another. Students are learning new routines, forming new friendships and showing great respect for each other as they work together to make our classroom a positive and supportive space.

Over the past week, we have been reading and writing holiday recounts, exploring place value in Mathematics and learning about communication in History. Most importantly, we have been practising how to listen carefully, collaborate effectively and try our best each day.

We are already so proud of the effort the students are showing and the kindness they demonstrate towards one another. We look forward to a fantastic year of learning ahead.

The Net Stage 2 Term Week 3

Maths

In Stage 2, students have been revising and exploring a variety of mathematical warm up games that will be used throughout the year. Games such as Race to 100 and Number Busting have provided opportunities for students to showcase their knowledge of Whole Number and Place Value by practising a variety of mental and written strategies to solve problems and represent their knowledge of number relationships.

English

In Stage 2 Writing, our young authors have begun crafting entertaining pieces of writing that spark imagination and keep readers hooked! Students are learning how to build well-structured imaginative texts using clear paragraphs, starting with a strong title and orientation, developing a problem or conflict, and finishing with a satisfying resolution and ending. Along the way, they are bringing stories to life by creating interesting characters, vivid settings, and meaningful solutions. To engage their readers, students are experimenting with figurative language, dialogue, and other writing techniques, before carefully editing and revising their work. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they proudly develop their storytelling skills and creativity.

Religion

As we begin the school year, Stage 2 students will be learning about the Eucharist in Religious Education. The focus will be on understanding the relationship between sacrifice and the Eucharist, and the idea of spiritual hunger, how we are nourished by God’s love, not just food. Through age-appropriate discussions, stories, and prayer, students will explore how the Eucharist brings us closer to Jesus and helps us grow in faith.

Science 🔬

In Stage 2, students began the school year by starting our new Science unit on Living Things. We explored the question “What is a living thing?” and learned that all living things share key characteristics such as growing, needing energy, reproducing, and responding to their environment. Through discussions, and hands-on activities, students shared their ideas and curiosity as we set the tone for a year of learning and scientific thinking. It has been a wonderful start to the year in Science!
