In the 1880's, visitors at Moore Park Zoo could ride on Jessie the elephant within the zoo grounds for a penny a turn. This is the true story of Jessie the elephant's remarkable journey in 1916 when she at 8 years old walked with her handler during the night from Moore Park Zoo to her new home at Taronga Zoological Park.

In 1916, the Sydney Harbour Bridge had not yet been built. Zoo animals and people alike, walked and caught the ferry. The more dangerous animals were carefully contained. Jessie, the elephant, with her calm nature was trusted to take her journey by foot and ferry.

Elephant rides are now a thing of the past but read, 'How To Move A Zoo' to take you back in time and enlighten you what once was.
