School Student Broadband Initiative

State Schools Relief are excited to share an important update about the School Student Broadband Initiative, which is working toward bridging the digital divide for students.

Through this initiative, 30,000 eligible families with school-aged children across the country will receive free NBN internet access, helping to enhance learning opportunities at home. This program is available to all Victorian families with school-aged students

School Student Broadband Initiative - Major Extension Announced!

  1. The application period for the School Student Broadband Initiative has been extended until the cap of 30,000 services connected has been reached.
  2. Families already registered for the initiative will continue to receive free NBN broadband internet until Friday, June 30, 2028.

What this means for families:

  • Families currently connected via the initiative will have their connection automatically extended with their current provider until June 30, 2028. No action is required.
  • Families with vouchers need to activate their free service with a participating internet provider as soon as possible before the initiative reaches its cap of 30,000 households.
  • New eligible families are encouraged to contact the NBN’s National Referral Centre for an assessment. Eligible families will receive a voucher for free internet up until June 30, 2028, but must activate it before the initiative reaches the 30,000 household cap.
  • Once the cap of 30,000 services connected has been reached, no further applications to participate in the initiative will be accepted.

Eligibility Recap: For families and carers to qualify, they must:

  • Have an active enrolment at school
  • Not have an active NBN internet service at home (excluding mobile internet services)
  • Live in an area where NBN can be accessed through a standard connection (NBN Co will confirm this)
