Sports Update

To commence our Volleyball Inter-School Competitions for the year, our Year 11 & 12 Boys and Girls were able to represent VUSC in the senior school western region knockout pool, led by Teacher & Volleyball coordinator, Mr Eugenio, Sports Coordinator Ms White and Strength & Conditioning Coach Mr Dikranis.

Unfortunately, for both groups they were unable to secure a spot to the next regional stage. However, both teams gave their opponents a run for their money and showcased some brilliant efforts.

A key highlight for these students is the training they have been putting in outside of school hours with staff to better prepare them for the games across the year.

We have no doubt our intermediates in April will be able to showcase another great performance!

Students also attended the Keilor Division Swimming recently and came home with some podium finishes! Congratulations to all the students involved for their participation and doing their best!

Well done to all of our sporting students for demonstrating all three of our school values and being terrific ambassadors of our College!

STEM at iCan

As part of the STEM program at iCan, students have been developing their engineering skills using Lego Technic. Through their creations, students have been learning the basic principles of building and constructing strong and stable structures, as well as designing and motorising vehicles and machines.

More importantly, students have been having fun playing with their creations, especially when you can race them around a track!

Year 9 Enrichment Excursions

As part of the Year 9 Enrichment Program, students participated in their first round of excursions into the city. An immersive experience such as this provides opportunities for students to step out of their comfort zone and try new things. It also helps students to build healthy relationships with their teachers and peers, become more confident in catching public transport and being a responsible member of the community.

Students were split into three groups and attended either rock climbing at Hard Rock Indoor Climbing Centre, the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) in Albert Park or ice-skating at O’Brien Icehouse at Docklands. Students met their teachers promptly at St Albans Station and caught the train into the city together. The Year 9’s had a fantastic day out and are already looking forward to their next round of excursions in Term 2.

Debating Program

On Tuesday night, 18/03/2025 , the VUSC Year 9 debating team went to Williamstown Secondary College, Bayside campus to compete in their first DAV interschool debate. Their debate topic was ‘That phone use should be taught as a learning tool in schools’  and VUSC was on the negative side debating against Islamic College of Melbourne.

The team included Navi Bhasin as first speaker, Hao Hoang as second speaker and Jackie Tran as final speaker, ably supported by Sai Kasturi, Sarah Ali and Erikha Cormanes who will be debating in an upcoming round themselves.

Debating in public takes a lot of courage and all of these students did a fantastic job, preparing thoroughly, speaking confidently and behaving professionally at all times. Well done to all of you on a fabulous effort! Thank you for being such great representatives of our school.

Debating Coordinator

Gardening Club @ Junior Campus

Interested in gardening? Come along to the Gardening Club at lunch time on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Junior Campus with Ms Grant.  The Club is led by the students’ interests and will form part of a larger plan to improve the gardens of the campus.

The goal which the students have identified for 2025 is:

to improve biodiversity through restoring habitat for Victoria’s native plants and animals. This is supported with a Junior Landcare Grant and Victorian Schools Gardening Grant.

Gardening Club students recently participated in Clean Up Australia Day, picking up rubbish around the Junior Campus. Thank you to these students and staff for contributing to a cleaner environment for us all!
