Uniform Review

It is our 5 yearly review of our school uniform. Students have put together a survey which will soon be available to our community for comment.

To understand how uniform works in schools and at our school, here is a little bit of information:

  • We purchase the stock and run our own uniform store. This means we pay for the stock in advance. We currently hold $30,000 worth of stock (a considerable expense). This means that we don’t have the capacity to return unused stock, and it is cost prohibitive to offer a wide variety of choice. (We have to buy minimum lots of 50 of most items, the more choice, the greater the cost to us.) So in other words, we won’t be offering 5 choices of jumpers.
  • We sell the stock for just over cost. We do not make a profit which covers our costs.
  • Because of these factors and because of the cost also to parents’ uniform changes ARE NOT considered in a period shorter than five years.
  • Uniform is decided by School Council NOT teachers, although they can have a say just like everyone else.
  • When parents, carers, guardians, and students decide to enrol at MNSC, you are agreeing to wear the uniform. We are as advertised – we have a uniform. If you as a parent or a student don’t like it – then there is nothing we can do to accommodate you – for the reasons above, until such a time as it is under review. Once decided, everyone has to live with the decision.
  • The major consideration that School Council give to uniform when making a decision is:
    • Comfort for the wearer
    • Cost for parents
    • Durability
    • Ease of washing and drying
    • How the uniform looks to outsiders – how presentable we look.

School Council vacancies

Firstly, congratulations to Tania McConnell who is our new School Council President, and to Nicole Smith who is our Vice President. We still have a number of parent vacancies on School Council. We are looking for parents/guardians or carers who have experience in or would like to support us with several projects, including working to get a new gymnasium. Please ring Vaya Dauphin on 5667 9000 if you think you could help.

Lastly, Happy Holidays everyone, I hope you all have a restful break.
