Information for Year 10-12 Students and Families
Dressing Up: Through the Decades. On Monday, our Year 12s had the opportunity to dress up as something/someone from ‘through the decades’. It was great to see them all dressed up and enjoying themselves for the day.
A reminder to those families who are yet to return their updated Student and Family details sheets to please do so asap. Every Year 10, 11 and 12 received their details at the beginning of term. Ensuring these details are up to date is important especially in an emergency situation.

Unexplained Absences and Senior School Attendance
A friendly reminder to families to update any unexplained absences on Compass and to update Compass/call the school to advise when your child is away. If you are having trouble with Compass access, please contact the school.

As part of our ongoing commitment to your health and well-being, I encourage you to take some time to read through the attached brochures on Cannabis, Alcohol, Cocaine, and Tobacco. These flyers are filled with important information about each substance, including the risks they carry, their effects on mental health, side effects, and where to seek help if needed.
We are fortunate to have a dedicated and skilled wellbeing team here at school who are always ready to support you with any questions or concerns you may have. If you feel that you would like to talk more about these topics or need further information, please don't hesitate to reach out to a senior coordinator you feel comfortable with or email/visit Gail in the Well-being Office. Take care and remember, help is always available.
As we head into the winter months, if there are families struggling financially who require support with winter uniform please come and see a member of the senior team. Assistance is available to families who are a Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) recipient).
Starting next term, we are launching a “Where Are They Now” column in our MNSC newsletter and on our Facebook page, highlighting the amazing pathways and achievements of past students. We’re seeking contributions from ex-MNHS/MNSC students to inspire our current students by showcasing the opportunities that are out there! If you’re a former student, we’d love to hear from you. Please email photos of you (could be even include a pic of your school days) or your journey/work, your graduation year (or years at MNSC eg 1984-1988) and any advice or encouraging words you’d like to share with today’s students to kirsty.avery@education.vic.gov.au
We’ve included some questions below which may help guide your submission. Your story could make a real difference!
On Wednesday the 5th of March, Mirboo North SC’s School Captains and VOS Representatives attended the GRIP Leadership Student Conference at the Melbourne Convention Centre.
Throughout the day we engaged in multiple workshops and hands on activities that allowed for group work, while also meeting students from other colleges. Our VOS Team learnt tips on time management, responsibilities of taking on the role of a leader, and creating events that engage students. This opportunity helped stimulate ideas and helped our team work on their role of being a leader. Working with other schools, we also got to listen which created opportunities to find out what other cohorts are doing to make change in their area.
A highlight of this day were the engaging activities that we were able to participate in, such as simple things like getting to know other students’ hobbies and watching short videos educating us on culture and how to make our school a more engaging place. We were able to not only make new friends but learn on how we can improve our VOS team and School Leadership team.
Overall, the GRIP Leadership Conference was a great experience and an opportunity to generate ideas that we can bring back to Mirboo North.
Throughout the month we also have the privilege to help VOS start up an Enviro Club for our school. This club will be run by students with the guidance of teachers to use our Greenhouse space by planting and taking care of a wide range of native plants. The Enviro Club will also not just have the job of only working with the greenhouse but also the school’s grounds with the plan to plant this native greenery. Students participating in this club will also have the opportunity to interact with the community and it’s green spaces to ultimately work for a better local environment.
On April 1st, our VCE-VM students participated in a valuable learning experience by engaging in Mock Interviews. As part of this exercise, each student was tasked with applying for a simulated job opportunity. They submitted their resumes, cover letters, and applications, mirroring the real-world process of job hunting.
Thank you to community members who generously volunteered their time as interview panellists. Their involvement was instrumental in providing constructive feedback, offering insights into the job interview process, and helping our students build confidence as they prepare for future career opportunities. The feedback provided by the panellists was not only informative but also motivating, helping the students refine their professional skills and approach to interviews.
