PRIME TRAIN

The Churchill Football Netball Club are hosting an event we think all primary and secondary school aged students might be interested in.

"Prime Train" is an extremely popular influence in the sporting community on all levels of media and promotes health and fitness, positive life choices and is an excellent role model in todays day and age.

We (CFNC) have the pleasure of inviting him to throw on the blue and yellow for 1 game on the 12th April, and want to give kids an opportunity to meet Prime Train and see for themselves the benefits of healthy habits and lifestyle choices.

Inverloch is set to host its second official World Cubing Association (WCA) tournament on May 3-4, 2025, with Speed Cubing Australia encouraging local puzzle solvers to get involved. The action-packed two-day event at the Inverloch Hub will welcome cubing enthusiasts from across the country and beyond. This year’s tournament features the 3×3 cube as the main event, the addition of the CLOCK puzzle, and three blindfolded solving events. Other categories include skewb, pyraminx, and megaminx, providing a variety of challenges for competitors of all skill levels. Participants can register for as many or as few events as they wish, provided they can solve the puzzle they enter.

The event will showcase some of Australia’s top speed cubers, including current Big Blind solving Oceanic record holder and Gippsland local Michael Tripodi. Competitors from six countries are already registered, with Alex Butera aiming to reclaim his Australian CLOCK number one ranking, and former national record holder Emmet Hobbs vying for the top Pyraminx position. Speed Cubing has been gaining popularity in Inverloch since 2022 when local teenager Harvey Welsford and his friends established an after-school Speed Cubing Club with the support of the Inverloch Library. Now, Harvey and other club members who travel Australia competing in WCA tournaments are excited to once again compete in their hometown.

According to Harvey, “It’s exciting because our times are recorded, giving us official World, Oceanic and Australian rankings. I love solving, but speed cubing is also a great way to meet new friends and challenge myself in a fun and supportive environment.” Harvey, who broke his personal 3×3 record at the 2024 Inverloch Tournament, is aiming to go sub-10 seconds this year while also improving his 4×4 time.

Parents and educators widely support speed cubing for its benefits in developing problem-solving skills, motor skills, and concentration, all while providing an engaging alternative to screen time.

First invented in 1974 by Hungarian Ernő Rubik, the Rubik’s Cube took the world by storm in the 1980s and has remained one of the most popular puzzles ever, with over 450 million cubes sold. Speed Cubing competitions provide participants with the opportunity to earn titles, awards, and recognition for their skills and speed.

This is an incredible opportunity for newcomers and seasoned cubers alike to take part in an officially recognised competition in a fun and supportive environment.
