Mission /Prayer

September 28, 2024 – Saturday of the Twenty-Fifth Week in Ordinary Time

Lord our God, we are your children, who come before you and stand in your presence. Be with us and be our light in all situations of life, in all hardships and grief. Be our light, as you have always been.

Reflection:

In an atmosphere of joy and wonderment, the crowd who had witnessed the casting out of an unclean spirit celebrated the presence of God in the words and deeds of Jesus.

For his disciples, this atmosphere quickly changes to one of anxiety and darkness. Jesus spoke to them of his pending death at the hands of men.  Their hope turned into despair as they rejected His words. Bad news is what they heard.

‘The Son of Man is going to be handed over into the hands of men. You must keep this in mind, says Jesus. This constant reminder frightens them.

It was only when they witnessed the death of Jesus and experienced the resurrection that they came to believe. Out of the darkness, light does come. Out of despair, hope can be found.
