From the Head of Boarding

MEBS - A Legacy of Excellence

Dear Boarding Community,

Term 3 has come to an end. At the time of writing, I have attended the Kildare Graduation Mass held at the Cathedral and the Kildare Awards Night held in the KCC Hall on Tuesday evening , the Kildare Graduation Assembly on Wednesday   and the Mater Dei Graduation Assembly on Thursday. MEBS "Year 12 Final Dinner on Monday night preceded these events and was an excellent time to present some informal certificates to each year 12 and a Year 12 Photo Cup. At all of the events so far (The KCC Graduation Dinner is being held on the Friday night / last night of term at the Range Function Centre and Mater Dei's Graduation Dinner next term)  it has been noticeably emotional for our students many of whom have been in Boarding/ College for 6 years. Memories and friendships have been built up over this time and a sense of daily routine established. When this comes to an end, it can be unsettling for some. I am constantly amazed at our Boarders' academic and spiritual achievements in sport and other pursuits.  Congratulations to them all and all the best to each one for their future endeavours.

I would like to thank the Boarding Leaders for their hard work since Term 4 2023. I am going miss them. Thank you to:

Jacinta, Anthony, Lucy, Ewan, Chloe and Will. All the best for next year and beyond.

Congratulations to our new Boarding Student leaders:

College Boarding Captains:     Kildare: Neve Smith and Dustin Hood

Mater Dei: Chelsea Thomas and Mac Drummond

Nagle House Captain: Miss Ryan

Rice House Captain: Daniel Stiles

BRC Leaders:  Malle Morton, Jasmin Robinson, and Samuel Thomsen

The above group forms the Mount Erin Boarding Student Leadership group.

The work begins in Week 1 of Term 4 when all the Boarding leaders attend the

Australian Boarding Schools Association Boarding Leadership Conference held at Mount Erin in Meeting Space 2 on October 23 (Online during the day) This meeting involves new Boarding Leaders of Boarding schools from Australia and around the world)

Changing of the Guard

2024/5 College Boarding Captain, Chelsea Thomas (Mac Drummond was absent due to TAFE commitment) accepted the Mount Erin Boarding Banner from outgoing MDCC College Boarding Captains, Jacinta Thomas and Anthony Whelan.

Henty Field Days

We enjoyed cold but fine weather at the recent Henty Field days. It is always a good time to meet potential Boarding parents, reacquaint with alumni, and be part of the Boarding and Riverina Community. A big thank you to Matt Humphries (CEDWW Communications) for assisting both St Francis (Leeton) and MEBS over the three days. Also thank you to our Coordinator Jackie Tassell and Administrative Assistant,  Amanda Hilton for joining me at the Mount Erin/ Kildare/ Mater Dei  Colleges' site.

Coffee Zoom Chat

Following our successful Coffee Zoom Chat on the 4 September, I am pleased to announce that our second Coffee Zoom Chat will be held on Wednesday 6 November at 7.00 pm. A great opportunity to discuss all things boarding.

End of Term 3 Meet and Greet

It was great to have some of our families attend an end-of-term meet and greet on the last day of term. It was fantastic to have the time to chat and for parents to meet other parents.

The tour of the Rice and Nagle House was popular. A highlight was the new Rice House Kitchenette. Thank you to our Principals Mrs Val Thomas and Mr. Chris Browne for supporting  Boarding and allowing our students to leave school early on the day - thank you to Dave Lugton for providing excellent finger food. Thank you to all of our families for your support of Mount Erin.
