Inclusive Learning
Throughout Term 3, the focus of our professional development has been Inclusive Learning. Our teaching staff have been basing our work on the Department's Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0, as highlighted below.

Focusing on inclusive learning helps us to better respond to diverse needs, strengthen school culture and remove barriers to learning and engagement.
At Toorak Primary School we look to support students to reach their potential and do this by:
- Demonstrating our belief that all students can succeed
- Holding high expectations for all
- Scaffolding these expectations so that students feel supported
- Creating a classroom culture where students feel they belong and learning is effective
The second aspect of our focus is building trusting and respectful relationships with students. Our School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports program focuses on explicitly and consistently teaching expected behaviours and reinforces these with our token system. The Junior School Council are currently using their student voice to update the list of options for 'cashing in' these tokens. Staff understand the importance of getting to know each student and taking an interest in them. Research shows that these positive connections lead to higher levels of student positivity and academic outcomes.
Families are also a vital part of inclusive learning. Open communication and collaboration between school and home is crucial as parents and carers hold a wealth of knowledge about their children that can assist the school to more effectively meet their needs. We can't do this job without you - together we make a strong team.
