Harmony Week
Next week is Harmony Week. Harmony Week is a time in Australia when we celebrate cultural diversity and inclusion.
It reminds us that people come from many different cultures, backgrounds and traditions, and that everyone belongs.
You may like to discuss and share the following with your family:
- Where are your ancestors or family originally from?
- What culture or traditions does your family celebrate?
- Are there any foods, celebrations, languages or customs that are important in your family?
- How do these traditions make you who you are today?
Australian Army 125th Birthday - Our Australian Soldier Visual Arts Competition
This week, the Australian Army proudly celebrates its 125th birthday. As part of these celebrations, the Army, together with the Australian War Memorial is launching the Our Australian Soldier (OAS) Visual Arts Competition.
The OAS competition invites young Australians from Kindergarten to Year 12 to create an artwork depicting their interpretation of an Australian soldier. The aim is to deepen national understanding of service while giving students a creative platform to reflect on Australia’s military history and those who serve today, particularly during the ANZAC Day period. Images could be utilised during ANZAC Ceremonies before submission.
Key details include:
- Competition Opens: Now – website live 10 March 26 for digital uploads of submissions
- Competition Closes: 01 June 2026. Schools can submit bulk hardcopy submissions or digital via the cove.army.gov.au.
- Eligibility: Australian students K–12
- Prizes: Awarded for each year group
- Exhibitions:
- Physical Exhibition – 125 selected artworks displayed at the Australian War Memorial from September to December 2026
- Digital Exhibition – Hosted on the Australian War Memorial and The Cove websites, accessible nationally for Remembrance Day learning activities
We warmly invite your participation in this national initiative. We would greatly appreciate your support in sharing this opportunity with teachers, schools, and educational networks within your region to help encourage wide engagement from students across Australia. The competition has been mapped and linked to the standards within the Australian National Curriculum and would support a cross curricular learning opportunity.
