Defence Club Update

Defence Club has been full of connection, leadership and creativity over the past few weeks. Our Defence Captains have been stepping confidently into their roles — supporting younger students, encouraging conversations, and gathering ideas for future activities and ceremonies. It has been wonderful to see our students building friendships across year levels and strengthening their sense of belonging.

On our crafty Tuesday, the students poured their hearts into decorating real horseshoes as part of our Purple Poppy focus. Each one was painted and designed with care, representing the animals who served alongside our soldiers. The conversations that flowed while they painted — about service, sacrifice, and even their own pets at home — were thoughtful and meaningful.

We also rolled up our sleeves and baked ANZAC bickies together. we talked about the tradition behind them and why they remain such a symbol of care and connection for our service men and women.

Keith Payne VC Visit

We are incredibly honoured to be welcoming Keith Payne VC AM to Seymour. Keith Payne is Australia’s last living Victoria Cross recipient from the Vietnam War. His courage, leadership and dedication to his mates during combat in 1969 earned him the nation’s highest military honour.

This visit is a very special opportunity for our students to meet a living part of Australian history. To hear firsthand about resilience, service and sacrifice is something they will remember for years to come. We are deeply grateful for his time and generosity in supporting our Defence families and wider community.

ANZAC Day Preparations

Preparations are well underway for our 2026 ANZAC Day Ceremony. As always, this will be a student-led event, with a strong focus on reflection, respect and community connection.

Our Defence Captains will play an important role in leading elements of the service, and we are excited to see their growth as young leaders.
