CLEVER CLASS

Our Prep students have been busy exploring mathematics through a mix of explicit teaching and hands-on learning experiences. This helps us build strong number knowledge while also developing confidence, curiosity, and problem-solving skills.

During our explicit maths lessons, students have been learning how to write numbers correctly and practise counting collections of different objects. Using a variety of items such as counters, blocks, and classroom materials, students count carefully and check their totals.

Students have also been engaging in a range of hands-on learning activities that make maths both meaningful and fun. Some of the activities we have enjoyed include:

  • Number making games, where students build and represent numbers in different ways.
  • Maths bingo, helping students recognise and recall numbers quickly.
  • Geo boards with rubber bands, which students use to create and explore different shapes.
  • Peg boards, supporting pattern making, counting, and fine motor skills.
  • Tangram blocks, where students combine shapes to form pictures and investigate how shapes fit together.

These activities encourage students to explore mathematical ideas through play, creativity, and collaboration.

It has been great to see students developing confidence in their maths skills while enjoying the process of learning. We look forward to continuing to build these important foundations throughout the year!
