Walk Safely to School Day – Friday 15 May 2026
It’s that time of year again when the focus turns to getting active—one step at a time. Walk Safely to School Day encourages all families to reflect on daily travel habits and look for simple ways to incorporate more walking into everyday routines.
While walking the entire journey to school may not be practical for everyone, there are still plenty of ways to build walking into the day:
Walk part or all of the way to school
If catching public transport, consider walking to the next stop
If driving, park a few blocks away and walk the remainder of the journey
Regular physical activity, such as walking, supports overall health and wellbeing. It can help reduce the risk of chronic conditions including heart disease and diabetes, while also supporting positive mental health and behaviour. Walking together also provides valuable opportunities to model and teach safe road and traffic behaviours.
Active kids are healthy kids—start planning now for how walking can be part of the journey on Friday 15 May 2026.
