Student Spotlight: Derek’s Impressive Performance in Ski and Snowboard Cross

We would like to recognise Derek Y (Year 7) for his outstanding effort and achievements in the recent Ski and Snowboard Cross events. Derek completed the Ski Cross course in 47.62 seconds, placing 147th out of 215 participants. This time is over 3 seconds faster than his result last year, a fantastic improvement!

In the Snowboard Cross, Derek finished in 1:01.46 minutes, ranking 46th out of more than 70 competitors. While he didn’t qualify for the finals this time (only the top 32 in Ski and top 16 in Snowboard advance), Derek thoroughly enjoyed the experience and is motivated to continue improving for next year’s competition.

We congratulate Derek on his perseverance and achievements and look forward to seeing his progress in future events.

Victorian Schools Netball Championships

A huge congratulations to our Year 7/8 girls who proudly represented Huntingtower at the Victorian Schools Netball Championships on Tuesday 26 August. Facing a tough pool that included a dedicated sports school, the team showed incredible determination and team spirit. They came away with 2 wins from 5 games, demonstrating great resilience and sportsmanship throughout the day. It was a fantastic experience full of energy, learning and fun. Well done girls!

EISM Tennis Gala Day

On September 03, three students were selected to represent Huntingtower at the annual EISM Tennis Gala Day held at Pinewood Tennis Club. The event was conducted as a round-robin tournament, with matches played to six games and sudden death deuce, resulting in an intense and fast-paced competition.

The best 20 boys and 20 girls from all 21 EISM schools participated, making for a highly competitive and exciting day. The quality of tennis was impressive, featuring long rallies, powerful serves and persistent shot placement.

Although Amber and Irene did not progress to the semi-finals, Goran competed fiercely against the tournament’s second-seed player from Luther College in a closely contested match. Despite narrowly losing, he demonstrated remarkable skill and determination.

A special thank you to Danielle Jones, Huntingtower’s Tennis coach, for her ongoing support and encouragement of the Tennis program at Huntingtower. Congratulations to all three players for their outstanding efforts and sportsmanship. Their dedication and skill were clearly evident throughout the day.

All Schools Badminton Championships – Girls Team

On Friday 05 September, our team, consisting of students from Year 8 to Year 11, competed in the Girls All Schools Badminton Competition. This was a great opportunity for us to develop our skills, and we really enjoyed playing with many new people. After months of after school training, we put our best foot forward, supporting each other throughout the matches. We won against our first two schools and then progressed to the top 8 in the competition.

In the next match, we played a tough game but unfortunately were defeated by Lighthouse Christian College 3-2, rounding off a very successful day, finishing 5th out of 24 schools.

We would like to thank Forrest for coaching us throughout the year, providing valuable feedback leading up to the day as well as during our games and to Ms Baynham who accompanied and cheered all of us on during the day, taking lots of pictures and making sure all of us were where we needed to be!
