Panning for Fun: Our Prep-2 Adventure to Sovereign Hill!

Our P–2 students enjoyed an exciting and educational day at Sovereign Hill, stepping back in time to experience life during the gold rush era.

To ensure students gained the most from their visit, each class participated in a variety of different activities throughout the day. Students explored the underground mine, visited the historic township, and interacted with the talented actors who brought the bustling Main Street to life through stories and character performances.

A highlight for many was trying their hand at traditional gold panning and watching the fascinating gold pouring demonstration. Students also experienced old-fashioned bowling and visited a historic classroom, where they learned what school life was like for children in the 1850s.

All groups also participated in an engaging educational session focused on building a city during the gold rush. Students worked together to make decisions about the types of buildings and services a growing community would need, helping them develop a deeper understanding of how towns were established and evolved over time.

Throughout the day, students were immersed in hands-on learning experiences that brought their History studies to life. The excursion provided a wonderful opportunity to deepen their understanding of the past while creating lasting memories with their classmates.

We were incredibly proud of the way all students represented our school, demonstrating curiosity, enthusiasm and excellent behaviour throughout the day.
