Bringing History to Light: P-2 Art Revives St Brigid’s Church

In Art this term, many connections were made to the History Inquiry being explored throughout the school. 

The P-2 children made fold out models of St Brigid's church after learning how this historic bluestone building has been central in shaping Catholic identity for over 150 years. The children explored the way repetitive lines and crayon rubbings could be added to the external surfaces of the church to add textural effects and enhance the visual interest of their building. 

As a further exploration, they made stained glass windows, using coloured tissue paper. They experimented with colour mixing by overlapping and layering different colours and investigated the way light passed through their translucent windows to create new colours with a glowing effect.
