Volunteer Call-Out: Help Keep a Local Treasure Open
The Cyril Callister Vegemite Museum is reaching out to our local school community in the hope of finding some friendly volunteers who may be able to lend a hand, just a few hours a month.
Many people may not realise that a percentage of the museum’s income is returned to the community through a scholarship program at Federation University, supporting Western Victorian students studying science. The goal is to encourage young people to continue their science education, perhaps even a future Beaufort student.
Since opening three and a half years ago, the museum has proudly awarded three scholarships, with the most recent presented on 17 May, 2026.
The museum is run entirely by volunteers and currently opens Thursday to Sunday, 11.00 am to 2.00 pm. We have recently lost our Thursday volunteer and are looking for someone who may be able to help on Thursdays, even occasionally and other days if team members are on holidays or ill, on call per say.
No museum experience is needed, just a warm welcome, a love of community and a willingness to help share the remarkable story of Cyril Callister, the local man who invented Vegemite.
Volunteering at the museum is a lovely way to meet visitors, support local history and help keep this special community attraction open for everyone.
