One of the very important skills we have been working on in Foundation lately is listening and following instructions. While this might sound simple (or even suspiciously quiet), it’s actually a big part of the curriculum and a crucial skill for learning across all areas.
According to the curriculum, students need regular opportunities to listen, respond, and follow spoken instructions, and in our classroom, I have decided the best way to do this is… with dancing.
We have been using action songs and movement videos where students must carefully listen to the instructor and copy the moves exactly. This means eyes watching, ears listening, bodies moving, and brains working overtime. Do they jump? Spin, Freeze, Clap twice and stomp once? They have to listen closely to get it right!
The students absolutely love these movement breaks. They get to burn some energy, show off their groovy dance moves, and practise an important learning skill all at the same time.
It’s a win-win, fun and learning together… who would have thought!
So if you hear about a new dance move at home or see some enthusiastic (and very serious) instruction-following in action, now you know why. We are building strong listeners, confident learners, and possibly the next generation of backup dancers, all before the day is done.
Please watch below a small video of the Preps listening, dancing and having fun!
Term 3 Reminder – Swim/Gym
Just a quick reminder that Swim/Gym will commence on Friday 24th July and will run for five consecutive Fridays, finishing on August 21st.
A note with all the important details (including cost and forms) has been sent out on Xuno.
If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to come and see me.
As we head into the holidays, I would like to say a huge thank you for your wonderful support of your children this term. I cannot believe we are already halfway through the year, time really does fly when you are having fun (and learning lots!).
Your support plays such an important role in helping your children grow into confident, successful learners, and your support of me allows me to understand what is best for my students.
Wishing you all a lovely, safe, and relaxing holiday, and I look forward to seeing everyone back refreshed and ready for Term 3!
