We finished Term 3 with our Pre K to Year 2 Athletics Carnival, a wonderful afternoon of participation, House spirit and enthusiasm. Students enjoyed a range of track and field events, including long jump, shot put, discus and turbo javelin, before taking part in relays and team games. A particular highlight was the leadership shown by our Year 6 House Leaders, who guided and encouraged our younger students throughout the events. It was lovely to see them taking such an active role in supporting the Junior School.

As we move into Term 4, our focus in PE shifts to developing water confidence, aquatic skills and safety awareness. All students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will participate in weekly swimming lessons, with learning experiences tailored to their age and ability. Students will develop and refine swimming techniques, apply water safety strategies and build confidence in making safe decisions in aquatic environments.

Year 6 students will take a different approach, exploring territory games through water polo. Beginning with land-based activities, students will progress to modified, small-sided games in the pool, developing their ability to collaborate, create space, apply tactics and make decisions during play.

Our learning will extend beyond the pool, with Years 2–6 participating in the Surf Safe program at Collaroy Beach. Students will investigate beach hazards and practise surf survival and safety strategies. Years 5 and 6 will also have the opportunity to develop their surfing skills through weekly Friday Sport sessions with Manly Surf School.

Towards the end of term, our K–2 students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their developing skills at their Swimming Carnival.

Through these experiences, we aim to build the skills, confidence and enjoyment of movement that encourage students to remain physically active throughout their lives.
