Last week, Junior School students participated in National Simultaneous Storytime. This annual event celebrates literacy, imagination and connection through the simple joy of shared reading.

Every year, a picture book created by an Australian author and illustrator is chosen for this nationwide reading event, where schools, libraries, bookshops and homes experience the same book at the same time.

This year, the chosen book was Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller by Adam Jackson, Adrian Lloyd and Jake A Minton. The Junior School students thoroughly enjoyed this full-throttle, tail-thumping, goal-scoring, underdog story that brings the excitement off the pitch and onto the page.

Students responded enthusiastically to the story and were also able to glean some important messages, as Luna Roo and her teammates showed resilience, courage and a growth mindset. In the wise words of Luna Roo “next time someone doubts you or you feel you don’t belong, muster all your inner strength and prove that someone wrong”.
