Library Borrowing & Returns
Students can borrow up to 5 books at a time, for a 2 week duration. Reminder emails, notices on Compass, and TEAMS messages are sent to students when books are overdue, prompting them to return or renew.
We do not charge overdue fees, but long overdue books (months) will incur a replacement fee, and parents will be contacted via Compass 'events' regarding this.
Year 7 Library Sessions
Year 7 students have been working on 'Academic Integrity' this term - with sessions covering our MESC Academic Integrity Policy which is linked below and can also be found on our website with other school policies - https://mesc.vic.edu.au/our-college/policies/
We have also looked at Intellectual Property and Copyright, especially the need to acknowledge sources used through a Bibliography when producing their own units of work .
An Online Referencing Generator (ORG) is available on the Library Website to assist students in producing their bibliographies and it is highly recommended that they use this - https://org.slasa.asn.au/apa - school login details may be required for access.
Students are welcome to contact Mrs Swannell (Librarian) for individual help if they are having difficulties.
Lunchtime Activities
'Mindful Monday' crafty activities were popular this term, especially on cold days, and students also found a warm, cosy spot to read. (Note: no devices to be used at this time)
Book Bites Book Club continued on Tuesdays this term with students choosing a title from our 'horror genre'. We were all suitable spooked with titles chosen - 'Mel Foster and the Demon Butler', 'Coraline',
Card and board games are also available for groups to enjoy a challenge - Uno and Chess being the most popular!
Book Reviews
Blood Magicby Tessa Gratton
reviewed by Indianna (Year 7)
"Dark, emotional, and exquisitely crafted, Blood Magic intertwines themes of sorrow, love, and a haunting magic system fueled by blood. The narrative of Silla and Nick is both intense and atmospheric, striking a perfect balance between intrigue and emotion. This is an excellent choice for enthusiasts of gothic young adult fantasy. Great book for fantasy lovers."
The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
reviewed by Willow (Year 7)
"I loved the love triangle in this book and how it was a wonderfully written mystery. Something I loved about this book is that it wasn't a murder mystery but a game. I would highly recommend this book."
