SCHOOL LEADERS - CFMP

COMMITTEE FOR FRANKSTON & MORNINGTON PENINSULA

The school Captains, Ella M and Charlie B went along with the Communication Leaders, Ella A and Sawsan N, with Mrs Vaughan to a Committee of Frankston and Mornington Peninsula event, where they all met the local MP’s just like Jodie Belyea even our local council members Emily Green and Max Patton. There were workshops where we met our local members of parliament and council discussing topics like domestic violence against women, mental health, the cost of living, environment, how young people can interact with the voting and even infrastructures, jobs, etc.

We were put into separate groups so we could interact with others from different local schools. Each group took turns to interact with our local MP’s and give ideas and explain what it is like for us, young people within the Mornington Peninsula. This allowed them to get our viewpoint since our generation and the next are less interactive with voting and choosing who’d manage our government, so this was an opportunity for all of us to have a voice on where we lie in voting.

It was overall a wonderful experience for all of us to be invited to, it has encouraged all of us to be braver and speak up on what occurs in our government and hopefully even interpret it into our school culture.
