Over 100 First Nations' students from the Mornington Peninsula and beyond participated in MESC KELiS day. KELis stands for Koorie Emerging leaders at schools and is a program that fosters connection, immerses students in culture and also has a focus on wellbeing and of course leadership. Students were welcomed to Country by a beautiful smoking ceremony with Josh West, then spent the day rotating through different workshops, presented by Nairm Marr Djambana, the Frankston Gathering Place and First Peoples' assembly of Victoria. Some of the highlights were the bushtucker walk, making damper in the pizza oven with local honey and indigenous ingredients, the wellbeing session where students shared their challenges, symbolised by bricks being loaded into a backpack and learning about treaty and the important work of First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria.

A delicious hot lunch was cooked for and served to all by our highly skilled canteen chefs Kim and Bec.

Thanks to generous donations from local traders such as Ritchies, Bakers Delight, Brumby's bakery, the post office, Woolworths, Foodbank and Officeworks Mornington we were able to not only provide snacks throughout the day but end the event with a fantastic raffle.
