Junior Visual Arts 

Looks like the cold weather has hit Eltham North PS with these snow people appearing in the art room this week. Meanwhile, the Year Two students have been inspired by the artist Salvador Dali and created their own versions of ‘melting clocks.’

Performing Arts

It’s been an amazing start back to Term 3 Performing Arts! The topic for Grade 2’s and 3 / 4’s this term is DRAMA!

Grade 2’s will be looking at acting out emotions and characteristics of animals in these next couple of weeks while 3 / 4’s will be focusing on various drama elements, building their confidence in front of their peers while performing. They are working towards their drama role play scripts, which we will start halfway through the term!

The Grade 5 / 6’s are putting the final touches to their class song and dance that’s a part of our production of The Wizard of Oz. They are sounding fantastic! The cast and dance ensembles are all but ready, and I couldn’t be more proud of their work ethic and commitment to the show. We are just a couple of weeks away now from the big show night!

On Wednesday, Aug 5th, I am running a run through of the show in the hall. Following week is show week - Thursday 13th August during the day - we will have a dress and tech rehearsal at Eltham High School. The show will start at 7pm that evening. 

Round 1 of tickets will be available for Grade 5 / 6 families only from today and then a week later, round 2 ticket sales will commence. That will be open for one and all!

After an undefeated season of netball during Term 2 ISS, these ten students qualified to compete at the Division Championships on July 20th. This was held at Narrandjeri Stadium in Thornbury.

We played three games on the day, winning one and unfortunately losing two. This means we won’t go on to regionals this year.

However, there have been so many positives to take away from the last few months. 

• This was a new sport for most of the team.
• The improvement of every individual.
• The teamwork on the court.
• The willingness to listen and learn.
• The ability to play different positions on the court.

Thanks to the parents who took time out of their day to drive students to and from. Also, a big thank you to Thomas, Claudia & Renae for their assistance with scoring.

GO ENPS!

Auslan

Welcome back to Auslan! This semester, our Level 3/4 and Level 5/6 students are returning to Auslan after a break of almost a year. Over the coming weeks, we will be refreshing our Auslan skills by revising the fingerspelling alphabet, numbers, and colours through a variety of engaging games, hands-on activities, and interactive challenges.

Students will also begin exploring the topic of Holidays, learning how to participate in simple holiday conversations using Auslan. A key focus this term will be developing Non-Manual Features (NMFs)—the facial expressions, body movements and gestures that are an essential part of Auslan grammar and meaning. Students will practise using their faces and bodies to communicate emotions clearly, helping them become more expressive and effective signers.

Jnr Library

It has been a wonderful start to the semester in the Junior Library, with students enthusiastically exploring stories, developing library skills, and making connections across their learning.

Our Prep students enjoyed a colourful story time where they combined their growing Auslan knowledge with reading. They confidently used the Auslan fingerspelling alphabet and colour signs to interact with the story, reinforcing both their literacy and communication skills in a fun and engaging way.

Our Level 1 students became library detectives as they worked collaboratively in small groups to complete a Library Scavenger Hunt. Using the Dewey Decimal Classification System, students searched for books on a range of topics, including reptiles, sharks, mathematics and more. This hands-on activity strengthened their understanding of how books are organised in the library while developing their confidence in locating information independently.

Jnr Performing Arts

It has been a fantastic start to the semester in Performing Arts, with students developing their confidence, creativity and performance skills through Drama and Dance.

Our Prep students began their Drama unit by exploring the emotion of happiness through the story of The Three Little Pigs. Students enthusiastically took on the role of the three pigs, using expressive character voices, facial expressions and body language as they acted out the scene of building their straw houses. It was wonderful to see their imaginations come to life through dramatic play.

Our Level 1 students have commenced their Drama and Dance unit by learning a lively Farmyard Dance. As they learned the choreography, students focused on communicating the emotion of happiness through expressive movement, energetic actions and positive facial expressions.

Students thoroughly enjoyed practising, performing and watching video recordings of their performances. Together, they reflected on their work by discussing 'What Worked Well' (WWW) and 'Even Better If' (EBI), helping them develop valuable self-reflection skills and identify ways to improve future performances.
