Year 5/6 - Newsletter

Dear Year 5/6 Parents,

We hope this newsletter finds you well and that you had a fantastic break with your children. As we embark on the exciting journey of Term 3, we would like to take this opportunity to share some important information about the upcoming term.

Writing Focus: Information Reports

In English, our Term 3 novel is The Night They Stormed Eureka by Jackie French. This engaging text forms the foundation of our reading, grammar and writing lessons throughout the term. As we explore the novel, students will research the Victorian Gold Rush and write information reports about migration, life on the goldfields and the events leading to the Eureka Stockade.

Mathematics Focus: Multiplication and Division

In Mathematics this term, our focus is on developing students' multiplicative thinking as they build their understanding and confidence with multiplication and division concepts. To ensure every student is learning at their point of need, Year 5/6 students will work with different teachers for Mathematics throughout the term.

Inquiry Topic: Gold rush

In Inquiry this term, students will investigate the Australian Gold Rush through engaging research, hands-on activities and creative tasks. They will explore what Australia was like in the early 1800s, how immigration changed life in Australia, how the environment was affected by the Gold Rush, the impact on First Nations Peoples, and the significant people who shaped this important period in Australian history.
