Kitchen Garden Program

Exciting things are happening in our school garden! We are currently planning our program for next year and are thrilled to announce that new vegetables will be planted before the school holidays, ready to flourish for Term 1, 2026. Thank you to Emma Wagner, Kate Holdsworth and Lisa Holdsworth for helping to plan out the recipes for next year. We are also starting to plan the design of our new vegetable garden, with construction set to begin next year.

A special thank you goes to our wonderful parents, Peter Apostolopoulos and Matt Wagner, who are volunteering their time to install a sprinkler system before the holidays. This important project, funded through money raised from our Learning Leaders initiative, will ensure our vegetables stay strong and healthy.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to welcome volunteers to join the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program in 2026. We’re seeking three wonderful helpers, each committing to just one Friday per term, to support a year level in the kitchen. It’s a fun and rewarding way to be part of the children’s journey as they prepare, cook, and taste new foods. To take part, volunteers will need to hold a valid Working With Children’s Check.

On your allocated day, you will:

  • Arrive at school at 8:45am to help set up equipment and food
  • Work alongside Emma Wagner in the kitchen to cook and clean up
  • Assist at the end of the last session to tidy the kitchen space, finishing around 1:20pm

This has been a valuable program at our school but can only run with the generous help of our volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me on  kgosling@cohroakeast.catholic.edu.au so we can arrange a chat. Your involvement makes a real difference, and we truly value your input.
