Visual Art @ COHR
In Visual Art this semester all levels have been busy discussing and making various creations in the art room!
Some of the highlights have been:
Prep
The Preps have looked at some famous artworks by Monet and created their own beautiful garden painting. They have become experts at weaving, having explored paper weaving and created their own loom to weave different threads through. They have looked at printing and patterns and are currently working on their own self portrait to finish off the year.
1/2
The 1/2 students have looked at a lot of famous artists including Alma Thomas, Joan Miro and Henri Matisse. Throughout these sessions they have practiced associated skills like paper collage, drawing and abstract painting. The students had lots of fun experimenting with monoprinting and flexed their creative skills by making a cute underwater habitat for their clay fish.
3/4
Students in 3/4 have had a lot of fun trying out different materials and ideas this semester. They have had a chance for some clay play, learned about the life of Yayoi Kusama and her spotty creations and experimented with the process of monoprinting. A highlight this term was having a go at sewing on hessian - a surprisingly fun lesson where the students discovered that sewing isn’t just for grand
5/6
The 5/6 students have viewed a lot of different types of art this semester and have had opportunities to try out some of the styles and associated techniques themselves. We have looked at still life, hyperrealism, fashion and wearable art, and logos and fonts. Students have focused on how artists represent themselves and their experiences through their art and have created some wonderful garment designs and self portraits which offer a glimpse into their own personalities and experiences.
Art Club
Art club is busy and bustling every week! Students get to choose from a range of materials each week and come up with all kinds of fabulous creations. The highlights this term have been watching the collaboration between students when they are working together on a graffiti wall or teaching one another how to sew. Such fabulous little artists!
